In addition to all those wonderful times that you experience during your pregnancy, there are also a lot of beauty related issues that are totally unaccounted for that will affect your overall appeaarance and comfort. From hair loss to eczema, unfortunately pregnancy is riddled with a wide variety of problems for women that are expecting. So in order to overcome them, here are a list of failsafe ways to help your journey as an expecting mother a whole lot more enjoyable.
Issue: Thinning Hair/Hair Loss
The first thing to do with thinning hair (due to pregnancy or other causes) is to stimulate the scalp by brushing. It is a huge misconception that combing your hair leads to hair loss, it actually leads to healthy strands because it increases blood flow to the scalp. This is extremely important in order to promote healthy, strong locks and stimulate new growth in dormant follicles.
Issue: Irritated Skin
When you are pregnant, your hormones fluctuate dramatically which can cause acne, melasma and severe irritation of the skin. Dry, flaky skin actually acts as a barrier, keeping moisturizers from penetrating the skin. To combat this, use a gentle daily exfoliator to help to slough away the dry epidermis. If you skin is sensitive, try using enzymatic exfoliants (granular exfoliants are too harsh) before moisturizing. Also, aim for pregnancy-safe ingredients in your diet, including items high in natural fatty acids like olive oils, nuts and avocadoes.
Many creams, lotions and cosmetics will aggravate eczema, especially those with fragrances, essential oils or active ingredients. For an at-ome remedy, apply pure aloe vera leaf – not found in a bottle – directly to the skin. A simple oatmeal bath will also moisturize and soothe the skin. Chemical constituents found in oatmeal have anti-inflammatory properties, which help to rlieve itchiness and discomfort brought on by eczema.
