Women around the world are willing to do anything or spend any amount of money to get those beautifully glossy locks and tresses, however, contrary to the popular belief, getting shiny, silky hair does not require much effort or a lot of money. There are four easy ways that women can fulfil their dream of achieving that luminous look.
Opt for a Cooler Temp
Always rinse your hair with cold water after shampooing and conditioning. Hot water damages the outermost layer of the hair, namely the cuticle, which results in hair losing its natural shine. In addition, the hair must not lose its natural moisture; hot water is therefore discouraged as it dries out the hair, making the texture coarse rather than silky and smooth.
After stepping out of the shower, try to avoid using normal bath towels to dry the hair. The fabric of these towels damages the hair and makes it frizzy. Instead of the towel, a soft cotton cloth can be used as a replacement. One must also avoid squeezing the water out of the hair and folding up the towel on the head after a bath.
Comb, not Brush
When the hair is still wet, it must be brushed with a wide toothed comb to untangle the hair. Instead of using a hairbrush, a comb must be used as over brushing can damage the hair and make it appear rough and coarse.
One way to shiny, silky hair is to avoid shampooing every day. Dermatologists have explained the reasoning behind this by giving an analogy. They point out that hair is fibre and like any other fibre such as wool, the more you wash it the more it wears out. Wearing out will obviously reduce natural hair gloss and make it appear rough and dull.
DIY home remedies such as oiling, especially with sesame seed oil, have proved to bring out the lost shine in hair. Applying egg whites for two hours before shampooing also results in silky and damage free hair.
